Ardersier Village Memorial Hall
George Grant was born in Ardersier just after the 1939 to 1945 war and brought up in the village and attended the local school. He helped his Uncle in the local shop delivering groceries on a Saturday and as a result got to know the majority of the villagers.
On leaving school he started an apprenticeship with an Inverness company as an electrical engineer, eventually starting work with the Highland Council where he remained until he retired.
He, like many of the village youngsters, had many happy days in the local War Memorial Hall which was used for Gym classes during the day and in the evenings and over the weekends was used as a dance hall.
The Hall was also used for Badminton, Whist Drives and Sales of Work which attracted great support from the village.The Hall was very much the centre of village life.
George married and moved from the village to Inverness but still had strong contact with the village and was saddened when the hall fell into a state of disrepair.
When he heard that plans to renovate the hall were being made he thought this was the opportunity to fund raise to assist with the modernisation of the hall. His idea was to prepare and publish a book on the Village from the late 1800’s until modern day using old photo’s which were made available to him by local people when he contacted them.
George has a keen interest in local history and was delighted to get his book published with assistance of funding by Highland Council and local Businessmen for which he was greatly appreciative.
The money raised from the book sales has been donated to this very worthwhile cause with thousands of £’s being raised so far.
Further funds have to be raised for the renovation and modernisation of the rear of the hall and George would appreciate your support.
